Mid Century Modern Trapezoidal Coffee Table

Objective: To create a solid White Oak coffee table with a 70 degree angle on the sides and Walnut accent keys to reinforce the joints

Process:

After the panels are glued up and the angles are cut, I line up the 4 pieces in the order they will go together and I tape the outside of the corners with packing tape. This will allow me to basically roll the pieces into place. The packing tape will create a tight joint:

Now it's time to cut the slots for the accent keys. I make 2 a custom sleds for the router so it will cut at 90 degrees to the angle of the joint. The top angle is different from the bottom angle.

Next up is to cut some Walnut pieces to the correct thickness so they pressure fit in the slots and then they can be glued in place and cut flush with a hand saw:
